The Walshe Group Appointed Eurostar Representative
24 August 2007
Southern Travel Holdings' 100% owned subsidiary company The Walshe Group is appointed the Australasian Representative for Eurostar.
The Directors of Southern Travel Holdings would like to congratulate The Walshe Group on their new appointment.
Eurostar released the following statement dated 22 August 2007: Eurostar, the high-speed passenger rail operator linking the UK with Continental Europe, recently announced that The Walshe Group is its new Australian and New Zealand representative.
The appointment of The Walshe Group comes as Eurostar prepared for the most significant period so far in its 13-year history and looks to increase bookings amongst Australian and New Zealanders planning trips to Europe.
On 14 November 2007, Eurostar moves from Waterloo to its new central London terminal, St Pancras International, and begins services on the UK’s first complete 300 kph rail line – High Speed 1, which will reduce the already fast journey times under the English Channel by at least 20 minutes. Travellers will be able to go from the centre of London to the heart of Paris in just 2 hours and 15 minutes and to Brussels in a mere 1 hour 51 minutes.
Established in 1976, The Walshe Group is part of Southern Travel Holdings and is one of the largest specialist representative companies in Australia and New Zealand.
Eurostar received more than 20 bids. Michael Davies, Head of International Sales for Eurostar, said; “The Walshe Group’s proposal won because of their strategic approach, their history of helping off-line transport providers make a success of the Australian and New Zealand markets, and a marketing plan that mirrored Eurostar’s look, feel and youthful spirit.”
Jacqui Walshe, The Walshe Group’s Managing Director, said: “We are thrilled and honoured to have been chosen to become Eurostar’s partner down under. Eurostar is a fantastic brand with great growth potential for travelers from our market who will appreciate both the high speed and environmentally friendly aspect of the Eurostar offering. We are looking forward to the ride!”
