Scandinavian Airlines System, SAS, was founded in August 1946 as a consortium of the national airlines of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. With 21 million passengers a year SAS is one of the largest airlines in Europe and the 15th largest in the world. SAS is a founding member of the STAR Alliance. Each day SAS operates more than 1,000 flights throughout Europe and on inter continental routes between Scandinavia and Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo, Shanghai and Beijing in the east, and Seattle, Chicago, Washington and New York in the U.S.
